울지 않는다. 누구 하나 소리를 지르지도 않는다. 서로 말하지 않아도 이미 느끼고 있다. 여기까지가 이 사랑의 끝이라는 것을. 이런 이별 장면은 더없이 애틋하다. 이 이별의 표정은 클로즈업으로 바라보아도 무감하게 느껴질 정도로 섬세한 결을 지니고 있을 것이다.
다르다는 것이 아픈 것이다. 이별이라는 막다른 길 앞에 선 것은 두 사람이지만, 이별하는 감각은 지독히도 다르다. 붙잡아 달라는 말을 차마 꺼내지 못할 정도로 차가운 침묵이 흐르는 시간에, 여전히 거짓말처럼 담담하고 따뜻한 포옹이 존재한다. 두 사람 사이의 틈은 이미 이만큼이나 벌어져 있다.
마치 한 편의 단편영화처럼 시퀀스 #1과 #2로 이어져 온 ‘치즈’의 사랑의 행로는 시퀀스 #3에 이르러 지극히 현실적인 사랑의 민낯을 드러낸다. 축제 같은 만남의 설렘과 열병처럼 앓았던 그리움이 지나간 자리에 짙은 체념 섞인 이별의 시퀀스가 놓인다. 사랑에 빠졌을 때도 그랬듯 헤어짐의 순간에도 ‘치즈’가 보여주는 감정은 결코 세차지 않다. 절제된 달총의 목소리가 슬픔의 물기를 잔뜩 머금고 있을 뿐이다.
이 사랑은 이렇게 저물어가지만 그럼에도 이 시퀀스들은 다양한 순서와 형태로 변주되고 다시 반복될 것이다. 아플 것을 알면서도 우리는 사랑을 거부할 수 없기 때문이다.
